Using Squarespace in South Africa with PayFast, Netcash or Rave
If youβve built a beautiful Squarespace website and you want to take payments using PayFast, Netcash, or Rave, youβll be disappointed to learn that these arenβt supported.
Why doesnβt Squarespace support payments in South African Rand (ZAR)?
Online payments can be a problem if youβre trying to use Squarespace for commerce in South Africa. Squarespace only supports three payment processors for online sales
PayPal
Stripe
Squarespace Payments (a whitelabel version of Stripe, managed by Squarespace)
None of these are South Africa friendly yet because:
PayPal doesn't support South African Rand (ZAR) so cannot take payments in your own currency
Stripe allows payments in Rand but they do not allow businesses that are entirely based in South Africa to open a Stripe account!
Is there a workaround?
The only workaround is to use a buy button from an alternative ecommerce provider, such as Shopify (affiliate link). They have βbuy buttonsβ that you can embed in Squarespace and they support PayFast. The Shopify basic plan is currently $29 USD per month. We wrote a guide on how to add Shopify Buy Buttons to Squarespace.
