This glossary is intended as a reference for anyone using Squarespace who needs to keep up with the terminology used on the platform. Squarespace are releasing features with increased velocity so this glossary should keep you up to date with Squarespace vocabulary! For details of new released, see our Latest Squarespace News page.

When someone adds one or more items to their cart and then leaves without completing their purchase, this is known as an βabandoned checkoutβ.
Squarespace has a feature called abandoned checkout recovery where, if the person added their email address on the checkout page, they can automatically be sent an email reminder about their abandoned items, 24 hours after leaving.
Abandoned checkout notifications are not sent for subscription or membership products.

A Button Block can be added to a page section to create a button to link to another page, call a number or open an attachment, such as a PDF.
A button is often known by marketers as a Call to Action or CTA as this generally refers to the next step that that we want the user to take.

This term is now used to describe the digital ecosystem that includes Course Pages, Videos Pages, and Member Sites. Digital Products were launched in September 2023. The products previously referred to as digital products in Squarespace Commerce are referred to as Download Products.

You can sell ebooks, audio files, and other downloadable content by creating Download Products (previously known as Digital Products). When a customer purchases this type of product, they're sent a download link. The link expires 24 hours after the purchase, preventing others from using the link to download the same purchase. If the original customer needs to download a product again after 24 hours, clicking the link will send an updated link to the original customerβs email address.

Member Sites is the new name for Member Areas. This is a paid service that can be purchased in addition to a Squarespace website plan, allowing you to turn your content and your expertise into income and generate more revenue from your website.
