Search broken on Squarespace 7.1 [15 October 2019]

Back in October 2019, this issue was logged because the built-in Search experience did not work properly. I was advocating for change since that date and logged a feature request with Squarespace as soon as they launched their Feature Request Board in 2023.

Between 2019 and January 2026, the Squarespace search feature only surfaced search results from collections and did not reliably index regular Squarespace 7.1 page content. It was also extremely slow.

From 28 January 2026, the situation has radically improved! Searches are dramatically faster, yield better and more complete results, and handle errors more clearly. Search now correctly indexes regular page content in 7.1

While there is still room for improvement (styling and configuration options), it’s important to acknowledge that Search is no longer “broken” in the way it was in 2019.

Credit where it’s due: this is a genuine fix rather than a workaround.

I’ve updated this post for clarity so that anyone finding it today doesn’t assume the issue is still present.
